NYC School of Data 2018 - HackHall Project Form

Suggest your project for the #HackHall!

In addition to the School of Data’s 12 exciting panels and workshops, all participants are welcomed to a #hackhall — a daylong open space for open source civic & government technology projects. In the #hackhall, you will collaborate, connect to new libraries/projects, and improve open source projects.

Our HackHall mission statement: spur, troubleshoot, or accelerate civic & government projects in NYC and the surrounding area.

**Note - we're open to a number of projects!! It doesn't have to be "data" related.**

    What is eligible?

Ideally, these projects are documented on GitHub and are open sourced. If not, that’s ok! We do ask that you write up a few words for us to share.
    • If you’re an organization or government agency, have a number of issues to address, and want to block out several hours, that’s great!
    • If you have an idea, game, small group workshop, something to demo, etc, awesome!
    • If you have an open source project / libraries to work on, fabulous!

...and by workshop, we’re talking about one to two hours, one to two facilitators, eight people, and a very quiet but interactive discussion.

FYI - HackHall is not for sales pitches nor panels. If you want to pitch a product, email us about sponsorship < schoolofdata@beta.nyc >.

What if I want to work on someone’s else project?

Buy a participant or solidarity ticket and we’ll send out a list of projects to work on the week of 12 February. If you can’t afford a full-priced ticket, apply to be a volunteer and work a two hour shift.

    How will this work?

Apply and we’ll get back to you no-later than the second full week of February, 12th February. Submissions close on Sunday, 11 February at midnight eastern.

We will be doing rolling admissions. If accepted, we will work with you to secure a time slot and resources. Please list all of the resources you need!

We want to share a complete list of HackHall projects on the night of 16 February. Between the middle of February and our event, we’ll ask you to promote School of Data, your project, and collaborate with other School of Data participants via BetaNYC’s slack channel.

On the day, Saturday, 3 March, we will subdivide our venue’s 6th floor. You might find yourself assigned to a conference room or long table.

As this is part of NYC School of Data, we’ll take care of the logistics, food, and childcare. We need you to organize your ideas, thoughts, and get ready to share.
