In 2013, BetaNYC, and NYC’s civic technology and open data community came together in six community meetings across New York’s five boroughs to co-author The People’s Roadmap to a Digital New York City, a comprehensive visioning document for civic technology in our city. Four years later, 14 of the 34 proposals generated from the community in The People’s Roadmap have been introduced as legislation in City Council. Seven have became laws, and nine have gone on to become public-private partnerships or applications (one of which is BetaNYC’s Civic Innovation Fellowship).
The 2017 People’s Roadmap to a Digital New York City will kick off over the next five months with community meetings in each of the five Boroughs and an online engagement platform input. These community sessions will serve as visioning sessions for developing the key proposals and initiatives we wish to advocate for over the next four years. The feedback from these sessions and online discussions will be synthesized into a document that will be written and edited with our community partners.
We need volunteers to run events, facilitate conversations, collate ideas, and edit the policy document.
