Open Data Week 2021 - Call for Proposals

Call for Submissions is open!

NYC Open Data Week is an annual week-long festival celebrating New York City and NYC Open Data. For 2021, we are gathering online from March 6th to 14th to explore open data across the five boroughs with YOU.

The NYC Mayor’s Office of Data Analytics and BetaNYC are looking for virtual event ideas, and where appropriate, socially-distanced outdoor experiences around open data. We want ideas that are engaging, filled with learning, and help build a strong community of NYC open data. Submit your ideas for interactive workshops, panels, talks, trainings, or hackathons. You do not need to have a fully flushed out proposal to submit, and you are invited to submit more than one idea.

The deadline for our call for proposals has been EXTENDED to Thursday, January 14th at 10 PM ET!!!!

What should I submit? 

All ideas are welcome, including incomplete ones and we welcome many formats including: virtual panel discussions, workshops, demos, trainings, exhibits, lightning talks, virtual reality experiences, neighborhood mapathons, project showcases, hackathons, data jams, public games, activities, and networking events.

How do you evaluate submissions? 

1. How does your idea engage New Yorkers? (this could include City staff)
2. How does your idea raise awareness about NYC Open Data?
3. How inclusive is the event?
4. What additional resources do you require for implementation?

If selected, what are my responsibilities?

1. Be responsive to communications from the Open Data Week Team.
2. Promote Open Data Week 2021 to your community, networks, and organization.
3. Fill out the post Open Data Week 2021 organizers survey; the survey will ask for metrics on participation rates, etc.
4. Adhere to all health and safety protocols put in place by NYC and/or NYS governments.
5. Adhere to all accessibility and inclusivity event management practices to the best of your ability (the Open Data Week 2021 Team will provide guidance and resources).

What else should I know?

In your proposal submission, please outline any resources you will need from the Open Data Week Team. Selected organizers are responsible for the production of and attendance at their engagements. The Open Data Week team will support all selected proposals through promotion and by making introductions where appropriate. The Open Data Week team will be available to present at select events, and to provide a demo or short training of NYC Open Data when possible.
